BE Library

The University of Washington Built Environments Library is one of 16 UW Libraries and focuses its services for students in the College of Built Environments. Located in the heart of Gould Hall, the BE Library contains a specialized and unusual collection of about 60,000 monograph and periodical volumes in the four CBE disciplines. The library has a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere in which to study between classes or browse recent books and magazines.

Library Leadership

Noreen Jacky, BE Library Supervisor, has over 30 years of experience in the UW Library System, and can assist with daily circulation questions and basic research questions. The Head of the BE Library, Alan Michelson, is available for book-order suggestions and research consultations. He has advanced degrees in library science and architectural history and can help with both framing large or small research topics and finding helpful books and articles. Appointments, while helpful, are not necessary to consult with Noreen or Alan, you’re welcome to drop in anytime the library is open.

Pacific Coast Architecture Database

The Pacific Coast Architecture Database (PCAD) includes a range of information on the buildings and architects of California, Oregon and Washington.

Also included are professionals in other fields who have made an impact on the built environment, such as landscape architects, interior designers, engineers, urban planners, developers, and building contractors. Building records are tied to those of their creators (when known) and include historical and geographical information and images. Bibliographical information, such as magazine and book citations and web sites, has also been linked for creators and their partnerships and structures.

Regional Community Groups

Community, cultural, and faith based organizations serve as an important resource to the development and preservation of the built environments for our neighborhoods, cities, and businesses.
